About Amy
Amy J Cheng is a Singaporean actress known for her quiet strength, emotional depth, and luminous screen presence. Her work across television, film, and theatre over three decades has earned her a reputation as one of the region’s most soulful and steady performers, capable of bringing honesty and gravitas to every role she inhabits.
Amy’s breakout came with Growing Up, where her nuanced portrayal earned her a Best Actress nomination at the 2001 Asian Television Awards and established her as a compelling dramatic lead. Since then, she has built a body of work that bridges genres, languages, and borders — from the acclaimed medical drama First Touch to intimate character studies such as Stay, Anita’s Complaint, and Like My Own.
Her stage career — spanning major companies including Act 3 Theatre, Action Theatre, the Singapore Repertory Theatre, and Toy Factory — revealed her versatility and anchored her reputation for emotional truth. She received a Life! Theatre Award nomination in 2006 for her role in 10 Brothers, and continued to take on demanding roles in productions such as Mental, Bertha’s Nest, The Deep Blue Sea, and 251.
Amy’s natural on-screen warmth made her a familiar face to audiences in lifestyle and parenting programmes, yet it is her dramatic work that remains her signature. She has appeared in notable films including Zhao Wei Films’ Stories About Love, Jack Neo’s Just Follow Law, and the international telemovie Der Chinese (Yellow Bird Pictures), in which she was one of two Asian leads. Her role as Jacqueline Ling in Warner Brothers’ Crazy Rich Asians introduced her to a global audience and reaffirmed her elegance and presence on screen.
In recent years, Amy has taken on a series of mature, emotionally resonant roles in Lion Mums 3, Invisible Stories, TiTouDao, ITO, and the period drama The Last Bout. She continues to expand her regional footprint with the Singapore–Thailand co-production Decalcomania (2025), reflecting her growing profile in Southeast Asian storytelling.
Known among directors and castmates for her sincerity, spiritual grounding, and collaborative spirit, Amy brings a rare combination of warmth and authority to her performances. Her longevity in the industry is matched by a quiet evolution — an actress who deepens with every role, and whose presence lingers long after the screen fades to black.
